Piraeus Bank Group, in the context of the anthropocentric philosophy that governs its business operation, places special emphasis -in Greece as well as in the other countries it is active- on those Corporate Responsibility principles that call for the protection and support of social partners and society as a whole. In particular, the Group develops initiatives that aim at the improvement of living conditions of vulnerable groups of the population, the general upgrade of living and cultural standards and the protection of the environment as a necessary prerequisite for the prosperity of the society.

Corporatre Responsibility Committee

Corporate Responsibility constitutes for Piraeus Bank Group an investment of strategic importance. Through it, the Bank contributes in any possible way to the upgrade of the economy and society, as well as to the rescue of the natural environment. The Corporate Responsibility Committee has been created since 2007 having as main objectives the following:

  • specification of the principles and the strategy of the Group’s Corporate Responsibility, the monitoring of their implementation and their evaluation,
  • target setting, coordination and evaluation of actions and programmes related to the pillars of Corporate Responsibility which promote sustainability
  • promotion of participation in programmes, co-operations, initiatives and funding instruments that strengthen the Group’s Corporate Responsibility.

Social Actions

Piraeus Bank Group has integrated volunteer social actions in its business activities with solidarity being its sole motive. The Group constantly adapts the economic, social and environmental impacts of its operation in a balanced approach of the triptych «economic development – sustainability – social cohesion». In that way, the Group reinforces and supports the institutions of family, education, health, our fellow citizens that were affected at a professional and personal level by the economic crisis, as well as entrepreneurship, the arts and sports with:

Support of Local Communities:

In 2014, Piraeus Bank made donations to 25 Municipalities in which it is active, as well as to various peripheries of the country, while it also supported beneficial actions of more than 30 social, sports and cultural associations, unions and local clubs.


Sports is – besides a social institution of educational character- a cultural commodity that reflects the social condition. In this context and in cooperation with the Hellenic Football Federation, the Bank contributed again in 2014 to the national effort of supporting greek sports as a proud Official Golden Sponsor of the National Football Team.

Promotion of Entrepreneurship:

The Group realises that the creation of an environment of business dialogue, information and education, helps the empowerment of the economy of the country. In 2014 there were sponsorships made to conferences, symposiums and daily seminars of professional institutions and chambers such as:

In 2014, Piraeus Bank approved the continuation of the sponsorship of a special savings programme for 76 students of the Lipsi and Arki islands. This is a social action that started in 2009 from ex Geniki Bank, which was committed to deposit a fixed monthly amount for every child until they reached adulthood. The programme will be completed by Piraeus Bank in 2022, when the younger kids reach legal age. The aim of this action remains the practical contribution to the fruition of the future quests of the students of the frontier islands.


In 2016 we have implemented 88 volunteer actions focusing on:

The total number of participations in these actions reached the number of 10,038 in the Bank and 311 in the domestic subsidiaries of the Group.

Subsidiaries Abroad

Piraeus Bank Group invests in Corporate Responsibility in its international network as well, with initiatives and actions that support society. Analytically and per country:


In 2014, the collaboration with Europa Donna Cyprus, continued for the 5th consecutive year, with actions that support the campaign against breast cancer. In addition, the work of Humanitarian Institutions and Organisations was reinforced, volunteer actions of the Red Cross were supported and several scholarships were offered to poor families and top students along with a sponsorship with the practical participation of executives in the programme ‘Entrepreneurship in Education’./p>


In cooperation with UNICEF, the campaign «Blagodetel» (Benefactor), was realized: since 2011 the Bank offers a special series of co-branded cards, the use of which contributes to the raising of a sum of money, which the Bank later, further reinforces. The total is used to support the work of UNICEF with children with special social needs. In addition, donations/sponsorships were made to charity institutions that shelter orphans, children with health problems, etc, and material support was extended to flood victims (Spring 2014). The Bank participated in the annual exhibition «Career Day» gathering CVs and providing career opportunities to graduates of Bulgarian Universities.


In 2014, for the 6th consecutive year, a blood donation initiative was completed in cooperation with Red Cross Albania, while in another action with the same organisation food parcels were donated to poor and elderly citizens on World Food Day. The awareness campaign for the fight against breast cancer was also supported. In addition the Bank organised entertainment activities and sponsorships for the support of children of vulnerable social groups, such as orphans or children suffering from incurable diseases in the context of the programme ‘Tirana Bank Cares’. Young entrepreneurship was encouraged through the co-operation with the Junior Achievement Organisation: the top students of high schools attended for a day the Central Offices of the Bank in order to familiarise themselves with employment and the benefits in the banking sector. A donation of technological equipment was made to schools of the country and public utility service companies along with the sponsorship of a programme of English Language learning to SOS Children’s Villages.


The Bank participated in the charity initiative of Princess Margaret of Romania through raising funds and school equipment so that 365 children and young people had access to education in 2014 and did not drop learning because of financial difficulties.


The Bank actively promoted the sports ideals and fair play and supported charity works through sponsorships and participation in sports activities. It supported education through a sponsorship of international competitions and the provision of monetary prizes and career opportunities to top students of the Belgrade Banking Academy and the Belgrade Mathematics School. The Bank took part in actions to combat children violence through local events and the special publication of a book in cooperation with UNICEF and the Serbian Association of Managers. It supported financially the Rehabilitation Centre of people with special needs and helped the flood victims.


The Bank participated in charity events and took fundraising initiatives to support non profitable institutions that protect vulnerable social groups.


The subsidiaries abroad carry out volunteerism actions in line with the volunteerism policy of the Group. In 2016, the subsidiaries abroad implemented 30 volunteer actions, with 2,165 participations.
