Piraeus Bank, the parent company of the Group, was founded in 1916 and is the leading bank in Greece in terms of market shares in loans, and branch network. Piraeus Bank provides a complete range of banking services and specializess in SMEs, retail banking, e-banking and capital markets. Piraeus Bank's’ stocks are listed in the Athens Stock Exchange (ATHEX) since 1918.
In 2000, the Bank absorbed Xiosbank and Macedonia-Thrace Bank, while in 2003 it also absorbed ETBAbank. Recently, Piraeus Bank realized four significant strategic moves that upgraded the Bank’s position and presence in banking in Greece: in July 2012 the Bank acquired the “good” part of ATEbank, while in December 2012 it acquired the total stake of SocieteGenerale in Geniki Bank (99%). In March 2013, Piraeus Bank acquired the banking operations in Greece of Bank of Cyprus, Cyprus Popular Bank and Hellenic Bank. InJune 2013, PiraeusBankacquiredMillennium Bank Greece and in April 2014 it acquired the healthy part of Panellinia Bank.
Piraeus Bank’s network comprises of 780 units (778 in Greece, 1 in London and 1 in Frankfurt) units and the Bank employed approx. 14,300 people.
